Occupational Therapy in Iowa’s Juvenile Justice System, Evaluating OT’s Role in Reducing Recidivism Rates Among Youth Offenders.

Welcome to my Udemy course on occupational therapy within Iowa’s juvenile justice system!

Participants of this course will be able to verbalize the scope of practice of occupational therapists in this setting. They will also be able to apply occupational science ideals and terms to OT practice in this setting. Lastly, they will be able to define occupational justice as it applies to OT.

This Udemy course contains a lecture overview of my capstone project preparation, including evidence compilation, research, and the development of a needs assessment to justify its completion. Also included here are lecture overviews covering OT’s scope of practice within justice systems and its impact on recidivism and connection to occupational science ideals. Lastly, participants of this course will gain access to the artifacts developed throughout this project including, the entire life skills curriculum developed during this project, the OT documentation used, and a community resource compilation packet focused on areas of occupation. This will be beneficial for OTP’s or OTS who may be interested in further developing a framework or basic set of resources to utilize in justice settings in the future. The development of this course is based on research, evidence-based practices, and clinical experience. The APA references and resources utilized will be included at the end of this presentation.
